UN High Offices Responsible For Death Of UN Workers
Sergio de Mello was a victim of UN negligence
Regardless of what the likes of Ban Ki Moon have in mind about UN, people of the world who have no protection from dictators and their thugs have a different perception. I have recently read that Ban Ki Moon threatened that those who commit crimes against UN workers in different countries must be accountable for war crime. Yes so they should be but those who killed Sergio Vieira de Mello in Iraq were first punished for no reason other than being a citizen under Saddam Husein. What they then did is called “revenge” and those who created the atmosphere of revenge must be accountable and tried for negligence. His position was taken up by Martin Cobler. He has nothing in common with Sergio de Mello who was considered for the position of UN secretary General before his death in 2003.
I was given this valuable piece of advice that one should work with what one has got. UN is all that humanity has got despite all its problems. This body can be useful and its workers can command respect of the whole world if and only if UN itself paid attention to the plight of citizens who were being executed, their eyes taken out, deprived form their right to education and worship etc. UN can function with respect if only UN top officials had principals plus a spine. Doctors without borders have proven that they are there to help.
People like Sergio de Mello and all of his 20 staff who were killed in Iraq were not known from a bar of soap by people who killed them. At the time UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was known very well instead. The only difference between Sergio de Mello, his staff and Kofi Annan was accessibility. In my humble opinion the crime is committed by the top officials and the price is paid by the field staff and the ones who live at times amongst hostile population being wronged with for no reason having no protection.
Those individuals who were killed in camp liberty by Iraqi military (investigations are in progress!) are known to be protected by UN. It is mind bugling that with such a report card filled with failures at all levels, there is no one in UN to look at his case
by listening to so many healthy minded lawyers, ex-UN officials, politician and most of all the residents of Camp (battlefield) liberty.
It has become apparent that invisible hands are keeping Mr. Cobler on his chair.
Cases of crime are revisited and reopened at time after 40 years in this world. The message is that “time will not make a crime to be forgotten”. Iranian people are resolved to make sure that the blood of so many people in protection of UN everywhere are not wasted. UN personnel find themselves in danger mostly due to the negligence of their superiors at the helm of this organisation.
If Sergio de Mello was alive he would not have accepted any of the prizes which were given to him posthumously. Instead he would have either asked UN to do the right thing by innocent people or he would have resigned.
During Iran-Iraq war hundreds of thousands were killed and streets were named after them with the martyr title (not proven to anyone). They were killed by the negligence and evil nature of Ayatollahs and their evil wars. Naming a street after Sergio de Mello is a similar act. UN has been looking away from the crimes committed by the Ayatollahs despite its duty of care for nations.
